On June 13th, IMCD France in Saint-Denis hosted the second edition of its youth-focused initiative, “Sea, Safe & Sun”. Designed to inspire and educate, the event once again brought together science, skincare, and environmental awareness in a dynamic and interactive format.
Exploring how chemistry protects our skin and our planet
The day was built around a simple yet powerful goal: helping teenagers understand the importance of sun protection and the science behind it. With the support of IMCD’s Beauty & Personal Care experts, students from a Paris middle school were invited to explore the role of skin, the impact of UV rays, and the essential role of sun care products. Through engaging presentations, they learned about the long-term risks of sun exposure, including how early skin damage can contribute to serious health issues later in life.
The experience continued at IMCD’s Skin & Sun Care Excellence Centre, where students got a hands-on introduction to the world of cosmetic formulation and discovered how sun care products are developed and tested.
From awareness to action: making sustainability personal
The program didn’t stop at education. One of the highlights of the day was a collaborative “Ocean Collage” workshop, where students reflected on the environmental consequences of human behavior, particularly on marine life and coral ecosystems. This creative session encouraged students to think critically and emotionally about the link between daily choices and global ecological impact.
Bridging education and industry for a more responsible tomorrow
By connecting the classroom with the corporate world, “Sea, Safe & Sun” gave students a rare opportunity to explore professional environments while addressing real-world challenges. The open dialogue fostered throughout the event encouraged meaningful exchanges around innovation, responsibility, and sustainability.
Looking ahead with purpose
Emmanuel Colette, Managing Director of IMCD France, shared his thoughts: “As a company anchored in Seine-Saint-Denis, we are committed to having a positive influence on our local community. We firmly believe that supporting and educating the next generation is key to shaping a more sustainable future. ‘Sea, Safe & Sun’ is a perfect example of how we can combine science, education, and engagement to drive change.”
The enthusiasm and positive feedback from the students confirm the relevance and impact of the initiative. Encouraged by the success of this second edition, IMCD is looking forward to expanding the program and inspiring even more young people around the world.
